Launch of the Regional Human Development Report 2021

June 16, 2021

Latin America and the Caribbean is a region of contrasts, where wealth and prosperity coexist with extreme poverty and vulnerability. The list of contrasts is long and familiar. The region is also characterized by very volatile and, on average, low growth, explained by very low productivity. This Regional Human Development Report argues that the region is, in fact, in a double trap of high inequality and low growth. These two phenomena interact in a vicious circle that limits the ability to progress on all fronts of human development. It is needed to understand the nature of this trap to break free from it.

We invite you to join the presentation of this Regional Report with the UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain Arancha González Laya, the UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Luis Felipe López-Calva and special guests of the highest level who honor us with their presence on this day.
