The United Nations Development Programme in Latin America and the Caribbean and GRANDATA join forces to help governments and organizations in the region to combat COVID-19, creating a platform that facilitates the analysis of people's movements outside their homes.

The tool shows the percentage differences in events carried out by mobile users outside their home between a base day and each subsequent day, up to the day before the date. On the one hand, it determines the degree of compliance with the “obligatory social isolation” of a population in a certain locality (municipality, province, country). On the other hand, it allows identifying those areas where more (or less) events occur outside the home about the base day.

The platform also describes, in smaller spaces called hexagons, the total number of events carried out by mobile users outside the home on a given day. These hexagons have configurable dimensions to facilitate different study objects.

The tool uses anonymous location data collected with the consent of users through mobile applications. On average, it works with a coverage of between 2% and 5% of the population of each country. The detail on the methodology is here.
