FICUP 2016 First International Conference On Urban Physics

19 de Diciembre de 2018

An appropriate urban structure is determinate by the order of certain factors that compose and characterize a city (such as road systems, recreation spaces, green areas, pavement, basic services, among others). The right interaction and behavior in the correlation citizens scheme (determinate by economic, social and cultural spaces), besides the adequate private-public management, will optimize the sustainable development of a certain municipality. This will establish its projections of growth and sustainability, in medium and long terms, based on the collective welfare and the constantly searching for building equitable, healthy, efficient and attractive environments for the future generations.
The First International Conference on Urban Physics, held in Quito and Galapagos, addressed issues of great interest to the localities in constant development, from a scientific perspective. Their main objective was promoting a co-working between local governments and other actors that can help to promote a suitable urban planning; considering the different socio-cultural contexts, impact of the climate change phenomena, and their energy resources. Within this framework, a close introspection of the peculiarities in two Ecuadorian townships was done: the settlements in the Quito “quebradas” and the Island Heat Effect that affect Guayaquil metropolis.
The agenda of the event include five sessions that addressed fascinating topics such as: 3D cities on an urban scale, telemetering, the urban climate, energy systems in large cities, and the finite elements and other methods of simulation. The presentations exposed, through mathematical simulations, the challenges that complex townships face to become an ecologically, sustainable, inclusive and organize cities. Thereby, proposals for new construction systems, considering possible solutions for critical global problems (such as the climate change), were proffer.
This document is the compilation of the outstanding presentations, conjectures and conclusions on urban physics presented at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Arts, part of the Catholic University of Ecuador, with the opportune collaboration and advice of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
