Buenos Aires, October 30, 2017- The office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Argentina has announced today the appointment of Charly Alberti, as Goodwill Ambassador.

Alberti, who has a long and recognized artistic career both nationally and internationally, has also been, for many years, a committed activist and advocate for the environment and sustainable development. His commitment to this cause is widely known and has transcended in different spaces and forums dedicated to the theme throughout the continent.

"It is a great honor to receive this designation and be able to collaborate with UNDP in the important work they have been doing to raise awareness about our relationship with the environment," Alberti said. “I am convinced that a change in our daily behaviors will make a difference. Climate Change is a reality that is rapidly changing our environment and forms of development. Achieving a change in behavior and awareness in the population is critical to reach sustainable development that allows us to address a future with greater economic, social and environmental equity".

The participation of Alberti as Goodwill Ambassador will be aimed to sensitizing and advocating for a change in individual and collective actions so that they can impact positively the environment, considering the prevention of the effects of climate change in Argentina. Alberti will accompany UNDP's work on Environment and Sustainable Development, inviting citizens to play an active role in preventing and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Charly Alberti will also be the voice and image of the Climate Action Campaign, promoted by UNDP in Argentina, within the framework of the Global Initiative "By 2030", a campaign proposed to add public support for adoption of the Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Transforming our world - The 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals is the document subscribed by more than 190 countries, at the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2015, Argentina among them, and has been adopted as an instrument for planning public policies at a global level.

UNDP as a development agency of the UN, has launched "By 2030" campaign whose objective is to support the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs in the countries that have signed the commitment and is the framework from which  will perform different communication actions.

In particular, Alberti's contribution will be focused on SDG 13 – Climate Action - which summarizes the proposed goals to act in favor of the prevention and mitigation of the effects of Climate Change.

"The 2030 Agenda raises the need not to leave no one behind in the fight against poverty, and the construction of sustainable development that is inclusive, with economic growth and environmental protection. We need all citizens to receive the message, and to achieve this, we entrust part of this work to Charly, in his role as Goodwill Ambassador of UNDP in Argentina, "concluded René Mauricio Valdés, Resident Coordinator of the UN and Resident Representative of UNDP in Argentina.
