Muñoz to head Chile’s Ministry of Foreign AffairsJan 24, 2014
President elect Michelle Bachelet of Chile nominated today Heraldo Muñoz as the country’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs. Muñoz has served as UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Director for Latin America and the Caribbean since May 2010. He has been providing strategic guidance to UNDP’s 26 country offices and its regional programme while directly supervising 24 heads of UNDP and UN Resident Coordinators in the region, in addition to HQ personnel. He has also chaired the regional UN Development Group, which gathers all UN development agencies funds and programmes in the Latin America and the Caribbean, among other functions. During his tenure he spearheaded UNDP’s recently launched Latin America Human Development Report on Citizen Security and several other initiatives.
The new Chilean cabinet swearing-in is scheduled for March 11.
