Andrea Balzano was appointed Coordinator of the Gender Team at UNDP Argentina in October 2008. As part of her work, she supports the implementation of the gender equality strategy as well as the creation of strategic partnerships. Ms. Balzano also provides policy advice services to the Government, both at national and local levels.

Prior to joining UNDP, Ms. Balzano was the Coordinator of the Gender-based Violence Cluster at UNIFEM’s Andean Regional Office in Quito. In that capacity she worked on projects related to women’s rights including: gender-based violence, discrimination, leadership, political participation, HIV and AIDS, and communications. She also represented the agency in the media and participated in several seminars and conferences.

In conjunction with UN partners, governmental, and non-governmental organizations Ms. Balzano also worked on the design and implementation of advocacy campaigns and participated in inter-agency thematic groups on UN Reform.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Balzano worked for the Government of the City of Buenos Aires as Director of the Child and Youth Department, and for several think tanks conducting action-oriented research on social and political issues.

Ms. Balzano, an Argentinean national, holds an MA in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University and a BA in Political Science from Argentina’s Catholic University.
