Integrating Gender in Disaster Management in Small Island Developing States: A Guide

June 19, 2015

The Caribbean and the Pacific share common characteristics of island regions, and represent a diversity of languages, cultures and histories. Both regions are vulnerable to natural disasters and extreme weather events. This guide outlines the vulnerability of SIDS in the Pacific and Caribbean and explains how gender roles and responsibilities result in differential exposure and impact of disasters.

The guide is intended to be a practical tool for disaster managers and their teams working to build resilience at the community level in small islands and ensure greater equality in the field of risk management.
